Saroori asked to resign

Jammu and Kashmir PWD Minister G M Saroori has been asked to tender his resignation to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the wake of the controversy over alleged impersonation of his daughter during an entrance exam. This was disclosed by Congress General Secretary Prithviraj Chavan in New Delhi last night. The development comes on the heels of alleged impersonation of his daughter in the entrance test of Acharaya Shri Chander College of Medical Science. It was alleged that two youth, including a girl, were appearing in the examination for the kin of two politicians — Saroori and former minister Ram Pal of the National Conference, Congress' coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir. Seven alleged impersonators, including a girl, were apprehended in this connection on Saturday.Jammu and Kashmir government had on Monday announced that the probe into the matter will be handed over to the CBI.Denying any wrongdoing by his daughter, Mr. Saroori described it as a misinformation campaign by vested interests to tarnish his image.
