Initial results from the first round of the French regional elections indicate that President Nicolas Sarkozy’s Centre Right allies are heading for defeat.The results suggest that the socialists are expected to emerge as the largest single party. It is the last nationwide vote before presidential and parliamentary elections due in 2012.
