Sarkozy terms Mumbai terror attacks similar to 9/11

The French President Nicolas Sarkozy today condemned the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and called for an international cooperation to combat terrorism. Speaking at the Oberoi Hotel in south Mumbai, one of the sites of 26/11 attacks, the French President compared the Mumbai terror attacks with the 9/11 attacks. He said that France shall stand by India so that justice is delivered.Mr Sarkozy said that terrorism should be outlawed universally. He also said that he counts on Pakistan authorities to show that they are resolute in combating terrorism. He said that Pakistan must take action against 26/11 perpetrators.Along with the French President, his wife Carla Bruni also paid tributes to the 26/11 victims. Governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan was also present at Hotel Oberoi.Mr Sarkozy honoured Karambir Kang of Taj Hotel and Devendra Bharma of Trident-Oberoi for their efforts in saving lives during 26/11 attacks. He bestowed `Insignia of Officer of Ordre National Du Merite' for their distinguished service.Earlier today, the French President and his wife Carla Bruni laid a wreath at the Police Memorial on Marine drive in memory of the personnel, who lost their lives in the 26 November, 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.Later in the afternoon,Mr Sarkozy would address a business meet, organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The event will be held at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace. He said it is unacceptable that terror groups are trained in neighbourhood and urged that terrorism should be outlawed universally.At Oberoi, Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni paid tributes to the 26/11 victims. The French President also honoured Karambir Kang of Taj Hotel and Devendra Bharma of Trident-Oberoi for their efforts in saving lives during 26/11 attacks.Earlier today, the French President and his wife laid wreath at the Police Memorial on Marine drive in memory of the brave personnel, who lost their lives in the 26 November, 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.In a short while, the French President is scheduled to chair the Indo-French business summit at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace. In the evening, the French President will board a special flight back to Paris.
