Sarkozy lands in Mumbai; Pay tributes at Police Memorial

French President Nicolas Sarkozy along with his delegation arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai this morning on the last leg of his four-day visit to India. The French President and his wife Carla Bruni were welcomed by State Protocol Chief Sumit Mallik and Joint Protocol Director Ravindra Bijur at the airport. Sarkozy and his wife visited the police memorial on Marine Drive to pay tribute to the personnel who lost their lives during the 26 November, 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Later the French President will take part in a special memorial service to be held at the Oberoi Hotel, where he is also expected to make an address. In the second half of the day, he would address a business meet, organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The event will be held at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace. It would be attended by Indian and French business leaders. Both the luxury hotels, Oberoi and Taj, were terror targets during the 26/11 carnage. Tight security arrangements have been made for French President Nicolas Sarkozy's day-long visit in Mumbai today.
