The West Bengal Transport Minister Mr. Madan Mitra has been arrested by the CBI in the Sharda Chit Fund scam. Mitra, a close confidante of West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee was today questioned by the CBI. The special crime branch of CBI probing the Saradha scam, had served summons on Mitra last month to appear before the agency for questioning.

Mitra had taken ill and was admitted to a private nursing home. Later, he was admitted to the state-run SSKM Hospital from where he was released on November 26. Meanwhile, a city court in Kolkata today extended till 22nd of this month the judicial custody of suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh, Sudipta Sen and Debjani Mukherjee in the Saradha case.
