Sarabjit's body flown to Amritsar by special AI aircraft, Parl condemns inhuman treatment meted out to him in Pak jail

Sarabjit's body has been flown to Amristar from Lahore by a special Air India aircraft. The plne landed at Amrisar airport by 8 PM.

Earlier Sarabjit Singh's body has been handed over to Indian officials after an autopsy done by a 6 member medical board of of the the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore.

A special Air India Aircraft has been sent to Lahore from Amritsar to bring the body of Sarabjit Singh back to India. External Affairs Minsitry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the primary focus of the government now is to ensure that his body is brought back to India as soon as possible. He said India never considered the 49-year-old Sarabjit Sarabjit guilty of the charges imposed on him by Pakistan. Had it not been that way, India would have never pursued the case. Akbarudin said Minister of State for External Affairs Praneet Kaur will receive Sarabjit's body at Amritsar. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has announced an ex-gratia of 25 lakh rupees from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for the bereaved family of Sarabjit Singh.Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal also has announced rupees one crore ex-gratia for the family of Sarbjit Singh.

Both the Houses of Parliament today expressed deep sense of shock and sorrow on the sad demise of the Indian citizen Sarabjit Singh in Lahore. Adopting similar Resolutions, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha condemned the inhuman treatment meted out to Sarabjit Singh and hoped that the culprits will be brought to book. Later, the members stood in silence as a mark of respect in memory of the departed.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said there is an extreme level of sadness throughout the country over the issue and the government will provide all support to the family of the deceased prisoner. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi met family of Sarabjit Singh. He spent around 30 minutes with the family and consoled them.

Sarabjit's sister Dalbir Kaur alleged that he was killed because of elections in Pakistan.Talking to media in New Delhi, she appealed to the political parties to come together to give an answer to Pakistan.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari has decided to cancel the dinner scheduled for the National Film Award winners to be held today following demise of Sarabjit Singh. BJP has asked the UPA government to severe bilateral ties with Pakistan in the wake of brutal murder of Sarabjit Singh. Party spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain demanded the recall of the Indian High Commissioner from Islamabad.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has issued advisory to all states asking them to step up security of all Pakistani prisoners lodged in their respective jails.

Caretaker Chief Minister of Pakistan's Punjab province,Najam Sethi today assured Indian High

Commissioner Sharat Sahbarwal that those responsible for the murder of Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh will be brought to justice. Officials in the Chief Minister's office said Sethi conveyed this during a meeting with Sahbarwal in the provincial capital. Earlier, Sethi ordered a judicial inquiry into the murder of Sarabjit Singh. He directed officials to ensure that the probe is completed in 15 days. Police in Pakistan has added murder charges to an FIR registered against two death row prisoners – Amer Aftab and Mudassar -booked for attacking him.

Sarabjit died at Jinnah Hospital at about 1 a.m. local time.
