Sarabjit still critical; India asks Pak to send him back for better treatment

Indian death row convict Sarabjit Singh continues to be in critical condition in Lahore's Jinnah hospital after a brutal attack. Hospital sources said that there is no improvement whatsoever in Sarabjit's condition.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has asked Pakistan to take seriously India's appeal for the release of Sarabjit. Talking to reporters in Moscow, Mr. Khurshid said the Government is repeatedly trying to push the matter to get Sarabjit back to India.

In a statement, External Affairs Ministry once agains appealed to Pakistan to take a sympathetic and humanitarian view in the case and release Sarabjit.

Pakistani authorities, however, said that the best possible care is being given to Sarabjit and there are no plans to move him. They dismissed media reports that a medical board is considering a proposal to send Sarabjit abroad for treatment.

Sarabjit sustained several injuries including skull fracture when six prisoners attacked him in Kot Lakhpat jail on Friday.
