Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh's four family members incluidng his wife two daughters and sister will leave for Pakistan today.
The Pakistan government has granted visas for 15 days to Sarabjit's family members yesterday. Vice President, National Commission for Scheduled Caste Mr. Rajkumar Verka who got the emergency visas for Sarabjit Singh's family has told AIR that if needed the visa tenure would be extended.
Sarabjit Singh was assaulted on Friday at the high security Lahore Jail by his fellow inmates critically injuring him.
India has offered medical assistance to Pakistan in treating Sarabjit Singh who is battling for life in a Lahore hospital. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid who is in Moscow told reporters that India will will use this incident as an additional ground to push hard to get him back to his homeland.
Meanwhile, New Delhi said it will send two retired Indian judges – Justices K S Gill and M A Khan – to visit a Lahore jail where Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh was seriously injured following an attack by prison inmates.
They are part of a joint India-Pakistan panel looking after each other's prisoners' condition. A senior Home Ministry official said the panel is scheduled to visit Lahore's Kot Lakhpat jail within a day or two to see the conditions of Indian inmates.
All members of India-Pakistan Joint Judicial Committee of Prisoners, had visited the Karachi jail yesterday and will also visit the Rawalpindi jail to meet Indian prisoners to see their conditions and prison records and whether their release could be expedited.
