Sarabjit death: India says Pak probe necessary to punish attackers; asks for release of body for funeral

India today urged Pakistan to have a thorough probe into the incident that led to the death of Sarabjit Singh in a Pakistani hospital. Sarabjit was seriously injured in an assault in Lahore prison on Friday last and died early this morning. Asserting that Sarabjit's death was killing of an Indian citizen, the External Affairs Ministry in a statement said that the probe is necessary to punish the attackers. The Ministry said, India shares the pain and sorrow of Sarabjit's family and asked Pakistan authorities to release his body so that he is given a funeral in India.
The Prime Minister while expressing sadness over the passing away of Sarabjit Singh regretted that Pakistan did not heed the pleas of India and Sarabjit's family for taking a humanitarian view in this case. Dr Manmohan Singh said, criminals responsible for the barbaric and murderous attack on Sarabjit must be brought to justice.The Prime Minister said, the government will make arrangements to bring home remains of Sarabjit and conduct his last rites.
Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde met Sarabjit's family members in New Delhi this morning. Talking to media persons after the meeting, Mr Shinde said, the government is making efforts to bring back Sarabjit's body to the country.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari today said that the Pakistani establishment must account for the death of Sarabjit Singh. Talking to media in New Delhi this morning, Mr Tewari said an indian citizen has been murdered in cold blood in the custody of the Pakistani state. He described the incident as extremely inhuman and barbaric and said it is not the way a civilized state treats their prisoners. The Minister said Indian government will do everything possible, to facilitate return of Sarabjit Singh's body to India.
The I&B Minister added, in 2005, Prime Minister took it up with Pakistan President that a humanitarian view must be taken in Sarabjit's case.

BJP today termed as a cold blooded murder the death of Sarabjit Singh .BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said civilised nations do not behave in this way.
