Sania, Rohan Bopanna advance to second round of Australian Open

In Tennis, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna, with their team-mates, today advanced to the second round of Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season, at Melbourne. In their opening round matches, while fourth seeds Sania and Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic defeated the British team of Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith, 6-3, 6-1, the 15th placed Indo-Uruguayan pair of Bopanna and Pablo Cuevas beat the Brazilian-Argentine duo of Thomaz Bellucci and Maximo Gonzalez, 6-4, 7-6.Leander Paes and his Brazilian partner Andre Sa and the other Indian pair of Purav Raja and Divij Sharan are yet to begin their campaign.In the Singles, Men's world number one Andy Murray and Women's top ranking player Angelique Kerber advanced to the third round today. Other who also reached third round are Roger Federer, Stanislas Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Venus Williams.However, Britain's Dan Evans effected upset of the day when he beat seventh seed and former US Open champion Marin Cilic in the second round.
