Sania Mirza wins Connecticut Open doubles title ahead of US Open

Ahead of the US Open Grand Slam tournament beginning tomorrow, Sania Mirza has received a confidence booster. She has won the Doubles title at the Connecticut Open in New Haven with her Romanian team-mate Monica Niculescu. Sania and Niculescu capped off their newly rekindled partnership after they defeated the duo of Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine and Chuang Chia-Jung of Taiwan, 7-5, 6-4. This is their first title together. The last time Sania and Niculescu partnered up was in 2010. They had played one tournament together before calling time. Sania had recently parted ways with Swiss Martina Hingisafter a hugely successful partnership.Over at the ATP Winston-Salem Open, also taking place in the US, Leander Paes and his German partner Andre Begemann blew away five match points in the second set to eventually lose the Final in a three-setter. They lost to the Spaniard-Finn team of Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Henri Kontinen, 6-4, 6-7, 8-10. Paes was trying to win his 56th overall ATP World Tour title and make it 20 years in a row with at least one tour-level doubles crown. He was playing his first final of the season on ATP Tour.
