Sania Mirza- Rohan Bopanna lose semis, to play for bronze in Rio Olympics

Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna failed to assure India its first medal of the Rio Olympics as they lost the Mixed Doubles semi-final. The pair could not capitalise on the strong first set victory, and gave away the match in the tie breaker to the American team of Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram. The scoreline read, 6-2, 2-6 and 3-10 in the tie breaker. Sania and Bopanna still have a chance to win a medal as they will play in the Bronze medal play-off match against the Czech team of Radek Stepanek and Lucie Hradecka.Last evening, Lalita Babar became the first Indian athlete in 32 years to enter the Finals of an individual event of the Games in track category. She qualified to the Finals of the 3000 metres steeplechase event. She clocked 9 minutes 19.76 seconds, a national record time. In Men's 100 metres race, Jamaican speedster Usain Bolt entered the semis after winning his heat with the timing of 10.07 seconds.In Hockey, the Indian Women's team crashed out of the Games after suffering a humiliating 0-5 loss to higher-ranked Argentina in their final Pool-B fixture. Shooters continued their disappointing performance. Gurpreet Singh failed to qualify for the finals of Men's 25 metre rapid fire pistol event, while Mairaj Ahmad Khan also could not clear the qualification hurdle of Skeet.
