It was a day of mixed fortunes for Indians in the US Open as Sania Mirza and Leander Paes moved into the second round of the women's doubles and mixed doubles' competitions respectively while Somdev Devvarman lost to Andy Murray in the men's singles opening round in New York on Wednesday. In women's doubles, sixth seeds Sania and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina defeated Americans Samantha Crawford and Madison Keys 6-2, 6-0 in their opening encounter. In mixed doubles, seventh-seeded Indo-Russian team comprising Elena Vesnina and Leander Paes beat the Russian-British combine of Nadia Petrova and Jamie Murray 6-2, 6-7, 1-0.However, it was curtains for India's lone men's singles competitor, Somdev after he lost 6-7, 2-6 & 3-6 against the British number one Andy Murray in a match lasting two hours and 27 minutes.
