World number one pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis today advanced to the second round of the Australian Open Tennis, the first Grand Slam of the season. The Indo-Swiss pair defeated the Colombian-Brazilian team of Mariana Duque-Marino and Teliana Pereira 6-2, 6-3.This was the Sania and Hingis' 31st consecutive victory as a pair. They have already surpassed surpassed the duo of Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva who had a world record of winning 28 matches in a row in 1994.The Indo-Swiss pair have, so far, won 11 titles together, including Wimbledon and US Open last year.Yesterday, Mahesh Bhupathi and his Luxembourg team-mate Gilles Muller had progressed to the second round. Leander Paes, however, made an exit, after he and his French partner Jeremy Chardy lost their opening game.
