Sania Mirza-Barbora Strycova enter quarterfinals of US Open

Sania Mirza and her Czech Republic partner Barbora Strycova have entered the quarterfinals of Women's doubles event at the US Open Tennis. The duo defeated American-Japanese pair of Nicole Gibbs and Nao Hibino 6-4 7-5 in the third round yesterday.They will now face French pair of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic in the quarterfinals today.India's Rohan Bopanna and his partner Gabriela Dabrowski crashed out in the mixed doubles quarterfinals. Bopanna and Gabriela enjoyed a strong start before going down 6-1, 2-6, 8-10 to Robert Farah of Columbia and Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld in 58 minutes.Defending champion Leander Paes and his Swiss partner Martina Hingis had also crashed out in the second round of the mixed doubles event after losing to American seventh seeds Coco Vandeweghe and Rajeev Ram.In Men's singles quarterfinals, Novak Djokovic will today meet Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga after winning to Briton Kyle Edmund 6-2, 6-1, 6-4. In women's singles, Angelique Kerber won a battle of grand slam champions and will now play Italy's Roberta Vinci in quarterfinals event. Kerber defeated Petra Kvitova 6-3, 7-5. However, Venus Williams failed to convert a match point and lost 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to 10th-seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic in the fourth round.
