Sania Mirza crashed out in the second round of the women's singles event of the US Open after suffering a straight set defeat at the hands of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkovaof Russia in New York last night. Sania was no match for Pavlyuchenkova as the 20th seed Russian blew away her Indian opponent 6-2, 6-4 in an hour and 21 minutes.Apart from Sania, curtains also fell on defending champions and third seeds Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy's campaign in the men's doubles event. They were beaten by the Czech-Slovakian combination of Martin Damm and Filip Polasek 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.However, Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul Haq Qureshi ensured that the Indians had something to cheer about. They entered the second round of men's doubles beating Americans Brian Battistone and Ryler DeHeart 6-3, 7-6.Bopanna and Qureshi will now play against the winners of the match between the unseeded teams of Americans Sekou Bangoura and Nathan Pasha and Michael Kohlmann (Germany) and Jarkko Nieminen (Finland).
