Sandeep Kumar breaks his own national record in 50km race walk

Sandeep Kumar of Haryana won the gruelling men's 50 kilometre event of the National Race Walking Championships in New Delhi today. Sandeep smashed his own national record, clocking three hours, 55 minutes and 59.05 seconds. With his brilliannt performance, he also qualified for London World Championships in August. His earlier national record was 3 hour, 56 minutes and 22 seconds, which he clocked in the IAAF World Race Walking Cup at Taicang, China in May 2014. Services athlete Jitender Singh won the silver, while his compatriot Chandan Singh bagged the bronze. Both Jitender and Chandan also booked their berths for the World Championships to be held during August 4 to 13. In the men's 20km race walk event, all the three podiumfinishers crossed the London World Championship entry standard of 1 hour and 24 minutes. National record holder K T Irfan, representing Services,won the race in one hour 22 minutes and 43.48 seconds. Services also bagged the Silver through Devender, and the bronze through K Ganapati.
