Samba attack: Terrorists used tunnel to infiltrate into India, says BSF

The Border Security Force today said that it found a cross-border tunnel along the International Border in Samba, which was probably used by three terrorists to infiltrate into India.

Addressing media in New Delhi Director General of BSF K K Sharma said, the tunnel is approximately 80 metres long and the matter will be taken up with the Pakistan Rangers.

He said, in the general area of BSF Border Outpost at Chamliyal in Samba, Jammu, some suspicious movement was noticed by thermal imagers on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday and a BSF patrol party was fired upon by the terrorists.

The BSF chief said, the force retaliated and killed the three terrorists. Mr Sharma said, the force recovered a pistol, an AK-47 rifle, more than 500 rounds of bullets, radio sets, mobile power banks, bottles containing liquids and improvised Explosive Devices from the slain terrorists.

Mr Sharma further said, since surgical strikes, more than 15 Pakistan Rangers have been killed and more than 10 militants were neutralised.

The BSF DG said, concerted efforts have been made to modernise the nation's border fences. He said, a part of Bangladesh border is unfenced including water bodies so humanly not possible for him to put manpower in such areas but the force is making efforts to fill the unfenced gaps using technology. He said, there has been a drastic drop in seizures of fake currency from Malda border.
