Australia's Samantha Stosur has won the Women's Singles title at the US Open. Stosur beats three times champion Serena Williams 6-2, 6-3 to win the first Grand Slam title of her career in New York last night. She became the first Australian woman to win the US Open since Margaret Court in 1973, and first to win the Grand Slam title since Evonne Goolagong won Wimbledon in 1980. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard congratulated her and said it will encourge the next generation to pick up a tennis racket.
