Over 47,000 students participated in the 17th edition of Salwan Marathon in New Delhi on Sunday. The race touted as the world's largest cross-country run for school children. The all-new edition of this annually organised marathon also witnessed participation of about 1,700 visually challenged children, who ran through a long stretch of 3.5 kilometres across the woods at the Polo Grounds of the Army Equestrian Centre.The event was flagged off by Lt Gen Munish Sibbal (AVSM), Qtr Master General, Indian Army. The marathon categorised participants in 8 differentm categories, Visually impaired, Intellectually challenged (3.5kms), Under 14 Girls and Boys (3.5 kms), Under 16 Girls and Boys (5.5 kms) and Under 18 Girls and Boys races (8 kms). Winners for respective categories were given a laptopwhile the first and second runner-ups took home Samsung Mobileand gift hampers. UNICEF and FICCI supported the marathon.
