The Minister for Law and Justice Salman Khurshid today introduced the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) bill, 2012 and The Anand Marriage (Amendment) bill 2012 in Rajya Sabha. The aim of the Registration of Births and Deaths (amendment) bill is to provide for registation of marriages of all persons who are citizens of India belonging to various regious denominations.
It will be benificial to women, as the registrations certficate would provide evidentiary value in matrimonial and maintenance cases and prevent unnecessary harassment meted out to them. It will also provide evidentiary value in the matters of age of parties, custody of children and the right of children born out of such marriages.
The aim of the Anand Marriage (Amendment) bill 2012 is to provide for registration of Anand Karaj marriages solemnized by Sikhs amending the Anand Marriage Act, 1909 to ensure evidentiary value. The bill also proposed to provide that the parties to the marriage whose marriage has been registered under this Act shall not be requred to get their marriage registered under the registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 or any other law for the time being in force.
