Salman framed for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in hit and run case

A Mumbai court today framed Charges against actor Salman Khan for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in a hit-and-run case.

The Mumbai Sessions Court, charged the actor with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail. Salman Khan has pleaded “not guilty” to the charge. The actor was exempted from appearance in the trial as he would be out of the country for two months.

Earlier, the 47-year-old actor had been charged with a lesser offence of causing death by rash and negligent driving, which would carry a maximum punishment of only two years in jail. But a magistrate's court enhanced it to a more serious culpable homicide charge in June.

In September 2002, Salman was allegedly driving a Toyota Land Cruiser when he ran over a group of people sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra. One person was killed and four others were injured in the accident.
