Bollywood star Salman Khan, who is currently in Sri Lanka shooting for his latest film ‘Ready’ has agreed to sponsor 500 cataract operations for needy Sri Lankan patients using his private funds.<br/><br/>A Sri Lankan Health Ministry spokesman said that Khan has held discussions with Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena in this regard.<br/><br/>Five medical professionals are expected to arrive in the island nation in the next few days from India with medical equipment and lenses to perform these cataract operations.<br/><br/>The 500 needy patients had been selected from the war ravaged North and Eastern Provinces including the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).<br/><br/>Salman Khan has also agreed to provide lenses to patients who cannot afford them.<br/><br/>There is a large number of needy eye patients in Sri Lanka who had been recommended for cataract surgeries. Most are unable to buy required lenses due to financial difficulties.<br/><br/>Salman Khan is under flak from the Southern film industry for agreeing to come to IIFA and later agreeing to shoot for his latest film in Sri Lanka. They have threatened to boycott his films. However, Khan is undeterred by the criticisms and continues to remain in the island nation for the shooting of the film.
