Salil Shetty of India has appointed as secretary-general of Global human rights watchdog Amnesty International.<br/><br/>Shetty is currently holding the post of Director of the United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC), which is dedicated to eliminating poverty and hunger.<br/><br/>Former Amnesty secretary-general Mr. Irene Khan, stepped down on December 31, 2009 after serving eight years on this post. Shetty is a former resident of Bangalore.
