In Madhya Pradesh, Sakshar Bharat Yojna is being implemented in ten districts in the first phase to eradicate illiteracy. AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that in these districts, the women's literacy rate is less than 50 percent. Sakshar Bharat Yojna aims to increase literacy rate to 80 percent in the selected ten districts. Through the scheme, efforts are also being made to reduce the gap between male and female literacy up to 10 percent. The ten districts included Khargone, Betul, Tikamgarh, Sheopur, Datia, Morena, Mandla, Mandsaur, Katni and Jhabua. Sanction has been given to run 4,618 adult education centres in these districts. Lok Shiksha Samitis have also been constituted at district, development block and village Panchayat levels. The Union Government is providing 75 percent financial assistance under the scheme to the state. Projects for other 27 districts selected under the scheme have been forwarded to Union Government for approval.
