Saina Nehwal is locked in an intense battle with World number one, Wang Yihan of China in the semifinal of the London Olympics Badminton event. World number five Saina lost the first game 13-21. Saina has already bettered her previous performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics by entering the semis. Saina will be looking to become the first Indian shuttler to win an Olympic medal.

In the quarterfinal clash, Saina defeated two-time All England champion Tine Baun of Denmark in straight games 21-15, 22-20. In the Men's singles, Parupalli Kashyap went down against top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia 19-21, 11-21.

In Tennis, the mixed doubles pair of Leander Paes and Sania Mirza is through to the quarterfinals. The duo defeated the Serbian pair of Nenad Zimonjic and Ana Ivanovic 6-2, 6-4. Paes-Sania have a uphill task ahead as they face top seeded Belarusian pair of Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi today for a berth in the semis.

In Boxing, Vikas Krishan will try to book a quarterfinal berth when he faces Erol Spence of the United States.

On Thursday, Vijender Singh made it to the quarterfinals of the men's 75-kg category. At the Excel Arena, he recorded a nail-biting 16-15 victory over his American opponent Terrell Gausha. Vijender will now take on Abbos Atoev of Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals.

The other Indian pugilist Jai Bhagwan, who figured on Thursday, bowed out by losing in the pre-quarterfinals of the men's lightweight category.
