Saina storms into quarterfinals of Malaysia Open

India's Saina Nehwal has stormed into the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament. At Alor Setar today, top-seeded Saina registered a comprehensive victory over Ayane Kurihara of Japan. Saina, the only Indian left in the fray, comfortably got the better of her Japanese opponent in straight games 21-14, 21-17. The ace Indian shuttler will now take on Chinese qualifier Wang Lin, who upset another Japanese, seeded-sixth Eriko Hirose, 21-11, 21-15. Meanwhile, notwithstanding her first round exit at the recent Indian Open Super Series, Saina Nehwal has held on to her fourth spot in the world badminton rankings. In the Men's Singles, Sourabh Verma, who made the quarter-final grade of the event, has jumped 45 places to 173 in the men's singles. Saina was given the top billing at her home Super Swries event but had made a shock first round exit.
