Star shuttler Saina Nehwal today scripted history after becoming the first Indian woman to reach World number one spot in Badminton World Federation Rankings. Saina, who will play her semi-final later in the evening, reached Number One spot after All England Badminton champion Carolina Marin of Spain lost her semi-final encounter in the Indian Open at the Siri Fort sports complex in Delhi today. President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated the Saina Nehwal for achieving the feat. In a tweet, Mukherjee said, Congrats Saina Nehwal on becoming World no 1 in Badminton well deserved honor; best wishes for Indian Open Semi Final. It is the first time that any Indian badminton player in the history has been ranked Number one.
