Saina Nehwal storms into semis in Olympics

India's Sania Nehwal today kept the Indian Tricoloour flying on the badminton courts of the London Olympics. She also created history by becoming the first Indian shuttler to qualify for the semi-finals in an Olympic Games. Saina achieved this distinction when she defeated two-time All England champion Tine Baun of Denmark in straight games 2-15, 22-20.

In the semi-finals, the world number five Indian will meet World Number One Yihan Wang of China.

In Shooting, it was a mixed fortune for India. Ronjan Sodhi flopped and failed to qualify for the finals of the men's double trap event. The top six in the event sailed into the finals. Shooter Vijay Kumar stood fifth in the first round of the Men's 25 metre rapid fire pistol event and remained in contention to make the finals.

In Boxing, Jai Bhagwan crashed out of the Men's Lightweight 60 kg category. He lost 8-16 to Gani Zhailauov of Kazakhstan in the pre-quarterfinals.
