Saina Nehwal, HS Prannoy enter China Open pre-quarterfinals

In Badminton, Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy today began their China Open campaign on a winning note. In women's singles, Saina beat Zhang Beiwen of America in straight games, 21-12, 21-13; while in Men's singles, newly crowned national champion Prannoy defeated Dong Keun Lee of South Korea 18-21, 21-16, 21-19 to progress to the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament. World number two and Rio Olympics Silver medalist PV Sindhu is currently playing her first round match against Sayaka Sato of Japan. In Mixed doubles, pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy lost their game against Christinna Pedersen and Mathias Christiansen of Denmark 19-21, 21-17, 13-21.In Men's Doubles, Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also lost in the first round.
