London Olympics Bronze medalist Saina Nehwal and 4 other Indian shuttlers today stormed into their respective pre-quarterfinals of the Malaysia Open Super Series Badminton tournament at Kuala Lumpur. In the Women's Singles opening round, top seed Saina defeated Juan Gu of Singapore, in straight games, 21-12, 21-15. However, rising Indian shuttler PV Sindhu crashed out of the Women's Singles, after losing to third seed Tine Baun of Denmark, 16-21, 21-18, 17-21. In the Men's Singles first round, London Olympics quarterfinalist P. Kashyap defeated Takuma Ueda of Japan, 21-14, 16-21, 21-5, while Gurusaidutt beat compatriot Sourabh Verma, 21-11, 21-14. In the same category, Ajay Jayaram lost to Daren Liew of Malaysia, 15-21, 11-21. In the Women's Doubles, the duo of Ashwini Ponnappa and Pradnya Gadre advanced into the pre-quarters, by defeating the Singaporean pair of Yu Yan Vanessa Neo and Dellis Yuliana, 20-22, 21-16, 21-15.
