SAIL to speed up pace for early completion of projects

The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) will speed up pace for the early completion of its projects. Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma, who reviewed the performance of the Public Sector undertaking in New Delhi today told reporters, besides targeting higher production, the Steel giant’s modernization and expansion programme will lead to upgradation of technology, energy savings, enrichment of product-mix and develop mines and collieries.

The Minister underlined need for accelerating expansion of existing iron ore mines and aggressively scouting for coking coal mines abroad. AIR Correspondent reports that SAIL has recorded a growth of 3 per cent in hot metal production in the first six months of this fiscal. Growth in crude steel was three per cent and in case of saleable steel production it was two per cent.
