Steel Authority of India Limited, SAIL will now focus on the development of appropriate technologies for sustainable growth. SAIL board has approved a master plan for Research and Development to acquire radically new technologies. It will help in reducing carbon dioxide and optimising land use by designing compact steel plants.

According to an official press release, SAIL will undertake at the corporate level, Technology Missions and High Impact Projects targeted at reducing raw material and energy consumption coupled with initiatives for imparting greater flexibility for raw material usage, reducing carbon-dioxide emissions and improved waste utilisation. Centres of Excellence will be created at the individual steel plant level. These centres will focus on various product development and improvements in collaboration with key customers and technology suppliers.
