The Public Sector undertaking, Steel Authority of India Limited has provided employment to over 27 thousand people under the displaced persons category at its steel plants and limestone mines. Out of this, 16 thousand jobs have been provided by Bokaro Steel Plant itself which is already more than the number of families displaced at the time of setting up of the plant.

Giving this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the Minister for Steel, Mr Beni Prasad Verma said the employment of displaced persons is being regulated in terms of guidelines which have been upheld by the Supreme Court. The Minister said the government has not formulated any separate policy for acquisition of land for setting up public sector steel plants.
