Sahana Kumari becomes 14th Indian athlete to qualify for London Olympics

Karnataka high jumper Sahana Kumari has become the 14th Indian athlete to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Sahana Kumari achieved this distinction when she cleared 1.92 metres on the first day of Senior National Athletic Championship at GMC. Balayogi Stadium in Hyderabad last evening.In that process she erased the previous national meet record of 1.91 metres held by Bobby Aloysius of Kerala since 2004. Local girl Satti Geetha brought cheer to the home-crowd as she went on to win the marquee event of the opening day-100 metres sprint. Geetha was a member of the Indian 4×400 metres relay quartet which got the gold in the Doha Asiad six years ago. Kerala's M M Anchu was second at 12.18 seconds while the bronze medal went to Ruma Sarkar from West Bengal in 12.37 seconds.
