A centrally sponsored scheme to improve the nutrition and health of adolscent girls and empower them through self development was launched by the Home Minister in New Delhi today. Under the scheme out of school adolescent girls in the age group of 11 to 15 years and all girls between 15 to 18 years will be provided nutrition , life skill education , vocational skill through national skill development programme and make them aware of socio legal issues and existing public services at Anganwadis. The scheme called Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls, SABLA, will be first implemented in 200 most backward districts of the country as a pilot project. Speaking on the occasion, Mr P Chidambaram described girl child as the most disadvantaged among the women.
