SAARC Summit plans 95 activities throughout the year

The Foreign Secretaries of the SAARC member countries on Monday held a meeting in Thimphu to fine tune the draft agreement due to be signed at the SAARC summit on Wednesday. Briefing newsmen, Bhutan’s Foreign Secretary Daw Penjo said, the meeting planned 95 activities throughout the year, of which eleven will be held in Bhutan.He said two agreements on Trade in Services and Environment will be signed at the Summit. Mr. Penjo said, the two highlights of the SAARC Summit will be the silver jubilee Thimphu declaration and the statement on climate change. AIR Correspondent covering the SAARC summit reports that 400 delegates from SAARC countries and 50 from nine observer countries are to attend the Summit. Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna held talks with his Nepalese counterpart Sujata Koirala in Thimphu on bilateral issues. Talking to AIR Correspondent, Nepalese Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala said, the discussions between them were focused on current situation in Nepal, the peace process and drafting of the new constitution.
