The SAARC Council of Ministers ended their meeting on Tuesday in Thimpu with a commitment to collectively work for improving the conditions of South Asian people to lead a peaceful, prosperous and happier life. The meeting considered matters relating to finance and poverty alleviation as well as the report of the Standing Committee. The implementation of the decisions taken at the last SAARC Summit as well as the decisions of the Foreign Ministers last meeting was considered. The meeting also placed on record the deep appreciation for the dedicated services of the outgoing Secretary General Dr. Sheel Khant Sharma. They also considered the appointment of Ms. Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed of Maldives as the next Secretary General of the regional grouping. She will be the first women to hold this position.
