S.M.Krishna to meet Israeli President Shimon Peres today

The External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna will meet the Israeli President Shimon Peres in Tel Aviv on Monday. The two leaders are expected to hold talks on wide ranging issues. Focus will be on increasing co-operation in anti terror measures, trade and commerce.

Extradition treaty and transfer of sentenced persons are the two important agreements likely to be signed during the visit.

The trade volume between the two countries has grown up from 2 billion to 5 billion US dollars by the end of last year.

The visit also commemorates two decades of establishing diplomatic ties between India and Israel .

AIR West Asia Correspondent reports, the External Affairs Minister visited the Indian Hospice in the walled city of East Jerusalem . It is an institution of great historical, cultural and religious significance to India .

It is believed that the revered Sufi saint Baba Farid meditated on the site, where the Indian Hospice stands now.

During the Second World War, the Indian Hospice was used as a leave camp for the Indian soldiers who served with the British troops in the Middle East .

The External Affairs Minister laid wreaths at Yad Vashem , Israel 's Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem .

The museum has been built in the memory of the Jewish people who perished in the Holocaust.

Divided into nine galleries, the museum showcases the Jewish communities before the World War II, rise of Nazis to power, pursuit of Jews, their eviction to ghettos and the mass genocide.
