The External Affairs Minister Mr. S M Krishna has raised concern on the attacks on the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Rakesh Sood. He has requested the Government of Nepal to provide adequate safety to Indian diplomats and diplomatic premises. Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari has assured that the government would ensure the safety of Indian diplomats and diplomatic premises in the country. The Ambassador was shown black flags when he visited western Nepal towards the end of March to hand over India aided projects to local communities. There have been reports of Indian flags being defaced along the East-West highway where India has built 22 bridges and undertaken a bulk of the road projects.Mr. Krishna also raised the issue of Indian contract teachers in Nepal, Mr. Adhikari has promised to work for providing a dignified and honourable solution to teachers in recognition of their service to the development of human resources in Nepal. The External affairs minister said that the dates for the next meeting of Home Secretaries of India and Nepal are being finalized shortly. The two sides have also agreed that outstanding bilateral issues between India and Nepal could be t discussed at the meeting of the two foreign Secretaries which is to be held soon.
