Sri Lanka's Supreme Court has ruled that the proposed amendment to end a two-term limit for the President can be enacted with a two-thirds parliamentary majority.This clears the way for Mahinda Rajapaksa to run for a third term. Rajapaksa, who won a second six year term in office in January this year had proposed to end a two-term limit for the President.The Supreme court ruled that the proposed 18th amendment is consistent with the Constitution and does not need a referendum, but a two thirds majority in the house to be passed.
