The South Korean government and the ruling Grand National Party on Wednesday agreed to forge ahead with sending aid to North Korea targeting the socially vulnerable, including children and pregnant women. <br/><br/>Local media today reported the two sides reached the agreement during a meeting of senior officials. <br/><br/>The Ministry of Unification had approved six shipments of humanitarian aid, including baby food, medicine and other relief supplies to the North early this month. The aid was worth nearly 600 million U.S. dollars. <br/><br/>Seoul severed all trade and travel ties with Pyongyang in retaliation for the sinking of its warship in March which it has blamed on a North Korea torpedo attack. However, Seoul has expressed its determination to continue offering humanitarian aid to Pyongyang despite heightened tension on the peninsula.
