In South Korea, 18 people have lost their lives in landslides triggered by torrential rain. Police said today that 12 people died when a mudslide hit an inn and three homes in the mountainous Chuncheon area 100 kilometres east of Seoul. Five people were killed in a mudslide in southern Seoul and one elsewhere in the city. The Korea Meteorological Administration said 161 millimeters of rain fell between midnight and 9 am today. Streets, subway stations, underpasses and residential districts were flooded throughout the capital.
