South Africa were 46 for 2 at stumps on the first day of the final test against West Indies at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown. Earlier, John Botha and Dale Steyn, helped at restrict the home team to 231 all out. West Indies, elected to bat on a hard, pitch at, were dismissed about 40 minutes before the scheduled close on Saturday. Dwayne Bravo was the top scorer with 61 with Narsingh Deonarine being the only other batsman to offer prolonged resistance, making 46. South Africa then suffered two early setbacks, when opener Alviro Peter Sen and Hashim Amla, the most prolific batsmen were out before the close.
