Ruthvika, Lakshya enter Vietnam Open quarterfinals

Rising Indian singles shuttlers Gadde Ruthvika Shivani and Lakshya Sen advanced to the quarterfinals at the Vietnam Open Grand Prix in the Ho Chi Minh city today. The doubles pair of Arjun Madathil Ramachandran and Ramchandran Shlok also entered the quarterfinals. Shivani, defeated Chinese Taipei's Wan Yi Tang 21-15, 21-12 in the women's singles to set up a clash with Indonesian third seed Dinar Dyah Ayustine tomorrow. Shivani had won the gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati. Lakshya posted a comfortable 21-14, 21-12 victory over Truong Thanh Long in the men's singles. He will next take on Kodai Naraoka of Japan.India's men's doubles pair of Arjun Madathil Ramachandran and Ramchandran Shlok, seeded fifth, defeated Malaysian duo of Low Hang Yee and Mastan Jinn Hwa 14-21, 21-12, 21-12 to enter the quarterfinals.Other young Indian shuttlers — Pardeshi Shreyanshi and Vrushali Gummadi — however, bowed out of the competition after suffering losses in the pre-quarterfinals today. Yesterday, Pratul Joshi and Reshma Karthik's lost their respective men' singles and women's singles matches. Kartikey Gulshan Kumar also bowed out yesterday after losing another men's singles event.
