The Russian lower house of Parliament, the State Duma, is due to hold the first of three votes needed to ratify the START nuclear arms reduction treaty with the United States on Friday. The head of Duma's international affairs committee said, no special sessions would be called to rush through the treaty and that further work on ratifying the treaty will continue when the Duma reconvenes in January next year. The United States ratified the new START treaty on Wednesday.
