Preliminary analysis of information from the flight recorders of the Russian Tu-134 passenger plane that crashed late Monday near the northern city of Petrozavodsk shows its engine were operating normally before the crash. The Interstate Aviation Committee on Thursday said no failure of the aircraft's systems was registered. The Rusair Tu-134 passenger plane, with 52 people on board, crash- landed in Russia's northern republic of Karelie late Monday, killing 45 people. The fuselage of the jet caught fire and was destroyed as the plane attempted to land on a highway near the airport in heavy fog. Preliminary investigation suggested the plane may have hit a power line during its descent.
