Russian Foreign Minister on a one-day visit to India today

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is on a one-day visit to India today. It is taking place ahead of President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to the country next month. During his stay in New Delhi, he will call on the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna will hold talks on a host of issues to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership. In 2009, Russia-India trade reached the7.5 billion dollar mark. The countries plan to take the figure to 20 billion dollars by 2015. AIR correspondent adds that the biggest joint projects between the two countries are the construction of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu and exploration of the Sakhalin-1 oil and gas field in Russia with participation of India's state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.
