Russia summons American diplomat as its US outposts are ordered to close

Russia has strongly protested over what it calls a planned search of its consulate in San Francisco by US intelligence agents. Russia has summoned a top US envoy at foreign ministry in Moscow on Friday to hand him a note of protest over plans to conduct searches in Russian trade mission in Washington. <br/><br/>In a statement, the ministry called the planned inspection illegal and unprecedented aggressive action. US media reported that consulate staff had burned documents before vacating the building. <br/><br/>The order to close the Russian consulate in San Francisco and other Russian missions in the United States by Saturday is the latest in the row between the two countries. The US-Russia relationship has been deteriorating rapidly over Moscow's alleged interference in the 2016 US presidential election.<br/><br/><br/>
