Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday said his country would not support a UN Security Council resolution on Syria. Mr. Medvedev told a news conference that he will not support such a resolution if it is similar to the one on Libya. The president did not say whether Russia would veto a proposed resolution. However, Medvedev stressed that Moscow opposes foreign interference in Syria's internal affairs. He said Syrian President Bashar Assad must be given a chance to fulfill his reform promises in the country. Russia abstained when the UN Security Council voted on Resolution 1973 that authorized air strikes to protect Libyan civilians against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces.
